Germany–Munich and Beyond

Late August 2016 brought an opportunity for us to visit Germany.  I had to travel for work and Lucas joined me after my trip and we explored Munich and the surrounding area.  I started my trip by visiting Dachau Concentration Camp.  This was the first time I’d ever been to one and it was a very moving experience.  I always appreciated learning about World War II and I have certainly seen a good number of movies about that time period–it was something else entirely to see a camp in person.

We spent a few days exploring Munich and hitting some museums, castles and the famous Hofbrahous beer hall.  The sausages and beer in Germany are very good but VERY heavy….it was a good thing we had tons of walking to do so we could burn some of it off.  I liked Munich overall but didn’t LOVE it.  We also drove down south a bit and saw the famous Neuschwanstein castle.  This castle is one of the most famous in Europe and it’s the one that the Disney castle is modeled after.   It is one of the most photographed castles and it’s easy to see why.

Germany is wonderful and so orderly.  Everything has a system and it was very easy to navigate–definitely a place we will return to!
