Sleep Series – Part 4 – Bedding & Blankets

I believe that one of the most important purchases you will ever make in your life is a mattress. We spend SO much time on it – that to have a mattress that doesn’t work for you – is detrimental to your health. Today there is no shortage of quality mattresses at all price points and most offer a trial period for you to test it out. Generally it takes about 4 weeks to determine if a mattress is right for you. If you’ve been delaying purchasing a new or better mattress, stop reading this, do your research and invest in your sleep and health by purchasing a new mattress!

Everyone is different and with different preferences, we are currently using the Purple mattress and it’s the best bed we’ve ever had. Before that, we had a Casper mattress – we bought it just as the mattress boom was starting where you no longer had to only buy your mattress from Sealy or Serta in an actual store.

OK now that you have a quality mattress, let’s talk bedding. This is not an area where I am particularly picky about. I like soft cotton sheets, but to be honest, I do not spend a ton of time thinking about material or thread count. That being said, I VERY much want to try bamboo sheets because I hear they do wonders at keeping you cool and that they are very luxurious. I’m a huge fan of down comforters and pillows.

The newest addition to our bedding is a weighted blanket – this has been GOLD. Mental health professionals have been using these for years as a form of pressure therapy but it’s only been in the past several years that they’ve gained in popularity. They add weight to give you the feel of being held or soothed and I find them to be ultimately relaxing. I don’t want to say that you can feel the stress melt away immediately, because that sounds slightly dramatic – but I cannot overstate how much a weighted blanket has made to my sleep.

What steps will you make to make your bed a cozy place to sleep? Or are you already there?
